Music

Music Aims:

We aim to provide our pupils with a well balanced and well resourced programme in which their
knowledge, understanding, skills, techniques and enjoyment of Music can be fully developed.
Music is taught in the form of study units to each year group. The programme of study takes into
account the specific learning needs of the pupils at Crownfield as well as the attainment targets set out
in the National Curriculum.

Children will be given the opportunity to:

• Listen to music from a wide variety of eras, genres, styles and cultures.
• Sing songs from a wide variety of genres and styles as a class, small group and individual.
• Play tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments as a class, small group and individual.
• Explore and develop techniques for singing and playing tuned and un-tuned percussion instruments.
• Perform, visually recognise, notate and create rhythms using stick notation.
• Learn about and use a variety of musical notational styles.
• Learn the appropriate musical terminology used to describe the elements of Music: Pitch,
• Duration, Dynamics, Tempo, Timbre, Texture, Structure and Silence.
• Record ideas, performances and compositions individually and as a group.
• Compose music using technology.

Children will be made aware of:

• Musical works from various cultures and historical periods.
• Relevant cultural, historical and social contexts of pieces studied.
• The elements of music.
• Children evaluate their performances and the performances of others and are encouraged to consider where improvements could be made for future development.
